Ipsos, in partnership with the American Edge Project (AEP), released a new survey today showing registered voters have growing concerns about the state of the U.S. economy, particularly when it comes to the survival of small businesses. The study also notes that U.S.- based tech companies will drive the economic recovery by connecting small businesses to the global marketplace and allowing them to find new customers and create jobs.

83 percent of voters are concerned about the survival of small businesses, which they view as an engine of economic growth. Nearly universally, voters express real concern about future economic downturns and 96 percent are worried about the impact on small businesses in their community. Likewise, the research shows that nearly 9 out of 10 voters believe American tech companies have played a critical role in helping the economy during the pandemic and have made a positive impact on American business, the U.S. job market, small businesses, and the economy. These beliefs are underpinned by their observations that American tech companies create products that make our lives better (85 percent), connect small businesses to the global marketplace (84 percent), connect small businesses to new opportunities (84 percent), strengthen the U.S. economy (83 percent), make it easier to grow a small business (82 percent), and make it easier to start a small business (79 percent).

The research also shows that 88 percent of voters expect the Biden administration to prioritize policies that keep domestic technology companies competitive at home and abroad. Overwhelmingly, Americans want the incoming administration to embrace a pro-technology policy agenda that strengthens domestic tech companies while shoring up the long-term health of the economy.
