Report Warns About Unintended Consequences Of Khan’s Anti-Innovation Agenda, Including Risks To U.S. Leadership in Artificial Intelligence
WASHINGTON, DC – A new report released today by the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) examines the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) policies under Chair Lina Khan and the negative impact these policies will have on U.S. innovation during a time of heightened competition for technological leadership with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
The report, A Global Antitrust Paradox?, finds that Khan’s agenda at the FTC is on track to stifle U.S. innovation, slow economic growth, hurt consumers and jeopardize U.S. leadership in developing critical technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI). The report suggests that in light of increasing competition between the U.S. and the CCP, Khan’s policies will have unintended consequences that will place our entire nation at an economic disadvantage compared to the rest of the world.
“Innovation plays a critical role in the growth and prosperity of our economy and nation. However, this report underscores a concern for the future. Under Chair Khan, the FTC has drifted away from decades-long antitrust and competition policy norms and moved toward an agenda that will lower U.S. GDP, weaken innovation, and ultimately hand China the title of global technological leader,” said Doug Kelly, CEO of the American Edge Project (AEP). “As new technologies, such as AI and quantum computing, continue to develop, it’s vital that the United States leads in these innovations. If we fall behind, the United States risks sacrificing its economic leadership and geopolitical standing to China.”
The report was authored by Joe Sullivan and published by CEI. AEP supported funding for Sullivan and CEI’s independent research to develop this paper.
